Good Afternoon,

Happy Tuesday!

Here are your tech tips for the week 🙂

Meet the Tech Ambassadors 👋🤝

During the back-to-school updates, we introduced your tech ambassador to you.  Now you get the opportunity to meet the tech ambassadors from other campuses!

Summer Winters, Howe Middle School

Why hello there! My name is Summer Winters and I have taught Technology Applications for 7th and 8th grade and have been the UIL Coordinator at Howe Middle School for the last 7 years. This is also my first-year teaching GT! I am a lifetime Bulldog, starting Kindergarten at Howe Elementary in 1988 and graduated Howe High School in 2000. Education/ Technology has always been something that I loved. I attended SOSU where I received my Bachelors Degree in Education. Currently I am attending A&M Commerce working on my Masters in Educational Technology Leadership. My husband and I have been married for 11 years and have 2 sons. Both of my boys are Howe Bulldogs. My oldest just graduated and is headed to the United States Marine Corps and my youngest is a Freshman at Howe High School. Other than technology I love to cook/bake.

If you didn't get a chance to catch Summer's awesome session over Canvas, please make sure to check out her Canvas class here:

What's New in Canvas? 🤔🤷‍♀️❓

Canvas went through some major changes this summer- especially to New Quizzes and Elementary theming.  Summer covers, in depth, how to insert media through the Rich Content Editor, how to copy content back and forth, how Canvas differs from the student app vs. the web view and so much more.  It is organized by topic and something you can refer back to all year long- make sure to save it to your favorites!

Nearpod and Google Slides 🤲

Did you know that Nearpod works seamlessly in Google Slides?  Follow this easy set-up to begin creating a Nearpod lesson from scratch or use a previous Google Slide lesson from years prior! Use the design power of Google Slides with the engagement of Nearpod AND collaborate to create!!

First, login to Nearpod through Clever:

Then in the top right corner, click on the down arrow next to Create and choose "Google Slides"

Nearpod and Google will ask for you permission to connect your Howe ISD google account to Nearpod.  Click allow!

Once your accounts are connected, you will see a blank presentation open in Google Slides.  You must then install the Nearpod add-on to get all of the amazing features connected to your presentation.  Click on "Add-ons" and then "Get add-ons":

Search for Nearpod and then install:

Once installed, you will go back to the Add-on menu and select Nearpod, then open Nearpod:

This will open the features available in Nearpod to add to your presentation.  Once you are finished creating, simply click on "Save and go to Nearpod" for your presentation to be added to your Nearpod lesson library:

Have a great week!

Thanks,
