Here are some handy Tech Tips for the week 🙂

Emoji Story Prompts

This is a fun and fast way for students to write a quick story using nothing but emojis for inspiration.  Let their creativity fly!



Memorize Keyboard Shortcuts

Save time by memorizing these handy keyboard shortcuts.  CTRL + Z is a must have for Canvas since there is no "undo" button.

  • CTRL + C copies highlighted text 
  • CTRL + X to cut (delete) highlighted text and copy it to your clipboard
  • CTRL + V to paste
  • CTRL + Z to undo the last action
  • CTRL + Y to redo an action that was just undone 
  • CTRL + S to save your document
  • CTRL + P to print 
  • CTRL + F to find a word or phrase in your document 
  • CTRL + A to select all text in your document 
  • CTRL + T to open a new browser tab

Canvas Document Trick

Are you having students/parents reach out to you and tell you that they can't see a document?  Or that they don't know how to download a document?  Follow these steps:

Documents in Canvas not Displaying Correctly for Students (Or giving error when trying to download)

Open the Rich Text Editor of your assignment, quiz, page or discussion post.  From here you can upload your file like normal or choose an existing file from the list on the right under "Files"






Once you upload or click on the file you want, it will create a maroon link as shown below:





From there, you will click on the maroon link (1) and then click on the link symbol (2):





Check the box that says "Auto-Open the Inline Preview for this Link" and then click on "Update Link"


This allows your students to automatically see a preview of whatever file (PDF, docx, doc, xlsx, etc.)  you attach to your page/assignment/quiz without having to download it!
